January is one of the least liked months in the year, and no wonder. Christmas is over. Our bank accounts have taken a battering. It's cold and - for many of us - dark when we leave home and dark when we return. No wonder we suffer from January Blues!

1 Step One

Get the bin bags ready and start clearing out all the things you have outgrown or no longer need. Clothes that no longer fit, books you’ve bought on a whim and won’t ever read again, and old toys and games that gather dust and clutter up your living space.

They’ll be put to far better use after they have been donated to the local charity shop or your local freecycle group. Alternatively, why not use ebay to turn any unwanted items into a little extra cash?

A good house clear out – just after you’ve put away the Christmas decorations – can be therapeutic and is the perfect first step in starting off the new year in the best possible way. Your home will look instantly bigger and tidier.

2 Step Two

Give your living and dining rooms a new look and turn them into the perfect space for long family lunches and cosy winter movie nights. A dining room table big enough for the whole family and a lovely nest of coffee tables are an excellent beginning for a family fun day of board games, hot chocolates and a cheeky takeaway.
