Why We Crave Bolder Colours in Winter

“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose…” Whilst chilly and often wet outside, winter can still be a warm and cosy time of the year. So pop the kettle on and get yourself comfy because we’re here to give you a few tips on how to create your very own indoor winter wonderland!

‘Tis the Season to be Merry

There’s a lot to love about this season, especially as it gives us a good excuse to indulge in all of our favourite home comforts! From the lighting of the wood burner, frosty walks, cosy nights in and merry movies, to hearty meals, relaxing candles and warm winter clothes!

Winter truly is one of the most magical seasons, so what better time to transform your home into a warm and welcoming retreat with bolder colours and cosy textures? You can achieve a variety of stylish looks with the simple use of bold colour, and it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go all-out and paint all four walls a shocking deep purple!

Bolder colour choices during the winter months make us feel warm and cosy, whereas lighter colours such as blue, white and yellow tend to be favoured in the summer months thanks to their cool and airy feel. With that in mind, now is the perfect time to be a bit adventurous by creating a brand new look that warms you to your toes!

Bold Colours of Warmth and Comfort

Adding a bold colour to your walls needn’t be a daunting prospect. Consider how light and airy the room is, how big it is, and what look or feel you’re aiming for.

If your room is bright with an abundance of natural light you can get away with experimenting with bold colours on the walls. Think deep reds, midnight blues, and luscious dark greens, or sultry mulberry hues, all of which can look über glamorous and sophisticated, especially when accompanied with accents of gold featured in your furnishings. We’re thinking ornate brushed gold mirrors, delicate gold photo frames, antique candle holders, vases and even luxurious gold curtains.

Introduce Bold Colour with Furniture or Accessories

If your room is smaller or has very little natural light, you can still add a splash of dramatic colour and achieve a fantastic bold look. If you’re in the market for a new sofa or armchair, why not choose one very boldly coloured one?

Just be wary of too many dark colours as this will give the illusion that your room is even smaller than it already is – that is unless you really are going all-out cosy and snuggly this winter!

An array of plush, boldly-coloured cushions will quickly add colour and warm texture without drowning your little room in heavy colour, whilst sumptuous throws are a great way to add a temporary block colour over summery-looking sofas for a cosy winter look with very little effort or outlay.

Finish your new look with delicate fairy lights, festive-smelling candles and coordinating soft furnishing and you’ll have achieved a bold contemporary look that will see you right through the colder months in style! Happy decorating!
