The Pros and Cons of Wall-Mounting a Flatscreen TV
There's no denying it... TVs are getting thinner, lighter, and larger. And with the new designs come new ways of displaying TVs in our living rooms. In this blog post, we'll consider the pros and cons of wall-mounting a flatscreen TV.
Pros:
- Wall-mounting a TV is a great option for smaller living rooms, as it eliminates the need for a separate TV cabinet, freeing up valuable floor space.
- Using a wall-mount gives you the option to place the TV at a height that offers the optimal viewing position for everyone in the room.
- Most wall-mounts allow you to tilt the TV to avoid glare from the windows in the room. Some brackets also let you adjust the TV's horizontal position, to accommodate different seating arrangements.
Cons:
- Unlike TV cabinets, a wall-mount doesn't offer storage pace for DVDs, games, remote controls or other accessories. You'll need to find alternative storage solutions if you have a collection of media items.
- Unless you don't mind visible trailing cables, you'll need to consider your cable management options before wall-mounting your TV. Especially since some of them - like cutting cable channels into the plaster - may need specialist help.
- Not all walls are suitable for mounting a flatscreen TV. It is generally not recommended to mount a TV above a fireplace. You'll also need to consider whether your wall is strong enough to support the weight of the TV and mounting bracket.
Wall-mounting saves floorspace, offers adjustable viewing angles, and is versatile, but you need to consider the type of wall you want to mount the TV on, and decide on a means to manage cables and leads. In addition, you may need to invest in additional storage solutions.
